Episode 2: When You See Daylight
Part 1
Bullets riddled the steel door in front of Violet, punching jagged holes just above her head. She clutched a black 45 caliber pistol in each hand and ducked out from behind the door to fire a shot at one of the dozen guards down the hall.
“You try to do something nice for someone…” she said out loud.
More bullets impacted the door, this time directly beside her and she ducked back.
“…and this is the thanks you get.”
She popped out again and fired just once, hitting one of the guards in his thigh, and then ducked back behind the door.
“God damn it, I said I was sorry,” yelled Laurel. She leaned out from behind her door across the hallway and fired her rifle at the guards. A pulse of red light shot from the barrel of the gun and impacted the wall behind the guards, burning a fist-sized hole straight through it.
“Where the hell did you get that?” asked Violet.
“I found it in one of the labs.”
“For God’s sake be careful….”
A klaxon blared and lights flashed in the hallway behind the pair. They turned in time to see a steel door crashed down from the ceiling,cutting off their escape.
“Ah jeez,” moaned Violet. She turned back and fired another shot at the closest guard.
“Can you break into their network and over ride that door?” she asked.
Laurel shot her a withering look.
“I am not R2 fucking D2. Didn’t you do any research?”
“Ned did the physical research,” Violet growled under her breath.
Violet fired again but the guards had regrouped and now crouched together behind a concrete planter while one of them made silent had gestures, explaining a plan to the others.
Violet turned to Laurel and shouted, “If you have any ideas don’t keep ‘em to yourself.”
“You want me to save you?” the robot asked.
The guards fired off a volley that pushed both doors back and sent the pair scrambling into the rooms beyond.
“Yes! Save me,” replied Violet.
“I think I have an idea,” shouted Laurel.
She disappeared into the darkness of her room. There was a crash from inside and then another. Violet heard he clatter of wall board falling on tile floor. From the end of the hall the guards fired another volley of shots and began moving down towards Violet’s position. Violet looked into the room across the hall and then back at the approaching guards.
“Aw jeez,” she said under her breath and charged in through Laurel’s doorway , ducking bullets and yelling, “wait for me!”
